In this unit we looked at the word endings ant, ent, ance and ence:

Think back - help with spelling rules
  • It can be difficult to decide whether to use ant or ent because when used in unstressed syllables, they can sound the same
  • If the suffix is sounded -ment it will be spelled ent
  • You can use your knowledge of the adjective form of the word to predict the noun spelling
