Spelling the sound /sh/ : sh, ch, ti, ci

The /sh/ sound.

As you would expect, the /sh/ sound is most commonly spelled with the letters sh:

shop shush rush shape

We have words in English that come from the French language and they often use ch.

brochure chalet chef machine

If the /sh/ sound comes in the middle of a word, it can be spelled ci or ti.
