This unit has looked at words ending in the sounds /shəl/ and /shəs/:

Think back - help with spelling rules
  • The /shəl/ sound is mainly spelled cial or tial
  • The /shəs/ sound is mainly spelled cious or tious
  • In both cases, the spelling of the root word may help suggest whether to use c or t.
