This unit has looked at words ending in the sounds /shəl/ and /shəs/:

The /shəl/ sound is mainly spelled cial or tial
The /shəs/ sound is mainly spelled cious or tious
In both cases, the spelling of the root word may help suggest whether to use c or t.
