Unit 1 summary

The basic 'Building Bricks' of the English language

In this unit you have learned some important facts about the way the English language works:

Think back - help with spelling rules
  • The English alphabet can be divided into vowels and consonants which are represented by different letters or groups of letters
  • Words can also be broken up into syllables and by separating words in this way they can become easier to spell
  • We can change the meanings of words by adding extra bits to them – prefixes at the beginning and suffixes at the end.

The Spellzone interactive course is intended to be used online and may not be printed.

"Thank goodness for Spellzone during this remote learning phase. The site is easy for students to navigate independently and they're really enjoying the activities and spelling games. You get an awful lot for your money with Spellzone. Really reassuring is the very prompt response with helpdesk queries. I've very rarely needed the helpdesk, but when I have, the issue has been addressed and sorted within a very short time."
