2020 Round-Up
2020 is almost over and it has been like no other. With school closures across the world, we have all had to adapt to new ways of teaching and learning. So from us, here’s a big well done to every teacher, student, parent, and carer. You have been brilliant.
Here is a round-up of our year:
- Students from around the world sent in their rainbow artwork. View their amazing creations here.
- We shared advice on how to use Spellzone if your school was closed, how to use Spellzone to keep up with your learning while at home, and how to use Spellzone to help you stay connected.
- We enhanced our Spelling Ability Test to allow students to get started on their Course Pathways as soon as possible. Click here to learn more about how the test works. Teachers can now also edit course pathways.
- As usual, we added to our Commonly Confused Words series. This year we looked at: allusion vs. illusion, complement vs. compliment, flour vs. flour, loan vs. lone, palate vs. palette, peace vs. piece, prophecy vs. prophesy, and threw vs. through vs. thorough. We also created a list of all our Commonly Confused Words blog posts.
- As a resource for our students who are learning English, we continued sharing definitions of popular idioms in the English language. This year we looked at idioms about cleaning, the farm (part 1 and part 2), flowers, fruit, hands, joy, light, and thought and memory. We also created a list of all our Idioms blog posts.
- Last year we launched our 10 Words blog series aimed at both people who are learning English and people who are looking to expand their vocabulary. This year we added to this collections with synonyms for cold, hot, nice, talk, tired, very, love, and scary. We also share 10 ways to express gratitude on Thanksgiving and 10 Christmas greetings.
- We shared 20 steps to help you improve your spelling (part 1 and part 2), 10 writing mistakes to avoid, and 10 things you can do with a Spellzone word list.
- We shared 30 examples of Cockney rhyming slang and 20 Computer and Internet vocabulary words (part 1 and part 2)
- Finally, in April, we started grouping our Word for Wednesday blog posts around a monthly theme. So far we’ve looked at words from the following categories: animals, musical instruments, fruit, flowers, stationery, Halloween, vegetables, and festive food and drink. You can find all our Word for Wednesday posts on the blog archive.
Thank you to all our users for your support this year. From all of us here at Spellzone, Happy New Year!
