Have you ever noticed how adding just a few letters can completely change the meaning of a word? In the world of language, prefixes hold the key to unlocking new meanings.
The prefix dis- comes from the Latin word dis, which means apart or away.
When you see a word beginning with the prefix dis-, you can assume the word means the opposite of whatever comes after the prefix. For example, if you dislike something it means you don’t like it and if you disobey someone it means don’t obey them.
