Whether you're aiming to showcase your school's top spellers or foster friendly competition between schools, Spellzone will ensure your event runs seamlessly.

Let’s get started…

Enabling Multiplayer Games on Your Spellzone Account

Before diving into your competition, make sure multiplayer games are switched on in your school's Spellzone account settings. If multiple schools are competing, each school will need to change their settings individually.

To enable multiplayer games on Spellzone:

  • Log into your Spellzone school account.
  • Click on ‘Account’ in the blue bar.
  • Navigate to ‘Edit details’ in the ‘Word Lists and games’ section.
  • Select ‘Enabled’ from the ‘Multiplayer games’ drop-down menu
  • Press ‘Submit’ to save the changes.

Spelling Bee Format

A spelling bee typically consists of several rounds, each increasing in difficulty.

Here is a suggested format:

Round One - Open to All or Selected Students:

  • Notify your students of the competition date and time
  • Choose or create a word list and launch a multiplayer game
  • Students log in at the designated time and click on ‘Word Lists
  • Students join the game from the ‘Multiplayer games’ box
  • Start the game once all students have joined.

Round Two - Top Students from Round One:

  • Choose or create a more challenging word list
  • Notify the top-scoring students from Round One individually.
  • Follow the same steps as Round One to host the game.

Semi-final and Final:

  • Prepare even more difficult word lists for these rounds.
  • Notify the finalists of the competition date and time.
  • Host the semi-final and final rounds following the same procedure.
