Each month in 2021, we will highlight 3 word lists for you to use when practising your spelling. 

We’ve chosen to theme February’s word lists around festivities that are taking place this month. Do you celebrate any of these holidays?  

  1. Zodiac Animal Signs  

    February 12th 2021 is Lunar New Year and the start of a period of celebrations that end with the Lantern Festival on February 26th. 

    The Zodiac is a 12-year cycle of animal signs that is based on the lunar calendar. The New Year festivities will mark the transition into the Year of the Ox. Practise spelling the different animal signs here.
     
  2. 10 Words for Love

    Whether you love Valentine's Day or think it's a complete waste of time, there's no denying that notions of love and heartbreak have inspired writers and artists for thousands of years. There are countless expressions associated with love in the English language: '...from the bottom of my heart', 'I have a crush on you', "'I'm head over heels in love', and even 'broken heart'; and over the years we've looked at how love has influenced the way we speak and write.   3. Pancake Day

    In the UK, Pancake Day is celebrated on Shrove Tuesday every year and this year will be marked on February 16th. Traditionally, Pancake Day was a feast day which allowed one to use up various ingrediants before entering the fasting period of Lent. Practise Pancake Day vocabulary here
