onomatopoeia Onomatopoeia is when the sound of a word is the same as its meaning. *
metaphor Symbolism is an art style which uses mythology and metaphor to convey ideas. *
simile Simile involves describing something by comparing it with something else. *
adjective An adjective is a word which describes something. *
enjambment A poet uses enjambment to flow from one line to the next without punctuation. *
stanza A poem has a minimum of one stanza. *
emotive Emotive language provokes an emotional reaction from the audience. *
emphasise British English spelling Words which emphasise an adjective, verb or adverb e.g. really, very. *
technique We all admired the wood-carver's technique.
imagery Imagery is when words are used to create a picture in a reader's mind. *
repetition When words or phrases are repeated for effect we call it repetition. *
language The TV censor cut out the bad language.
rhythm James plays rhythm guitar.
connotation The connotation of the message was very clear. *
