Spelling choices: ick or ic ?

Rule Breakers - these words break spelling rules I can find only 5 words which break the ick / ic rules:

tic (see below)
limerick 5 line humorous rhyme - from the place 'Limerick', named in one of the first poems of this type
derrick framework over a platform such as an oil-well - from the name of a 1600 London hangman
maverick an unbranded calf - or a person who follows his own rules - from the name of a Texas rancher who did not brand his cattle
gimmick trick to attract attention - US, 20th century - origin unknown - if you can help, please contact us!

tick -
a) a mark meaning correct:
b) the noise a clock makes
c) insect that burrows into flesh

tic - small muscle movement

Put a tick on the right word.
That old watch has loud tick.
The dog has been bitten by ticks.

He can't control the tic on his face.
