Spelling the qu words

You skipped the test.

Rule breakers break the spelling rule 1. qwerty - see page 16 of this unit.

2. choir - a group of singers. This comes from the Greek word chorus
(quire is a seldom used word meaning an amount of paper).

3. Also, beware the words awkward and backward.
It's true you can hear the sound /kw/, but the sounds /k/ and /w/ come in separate syllables:

awk + ward
back + ward

The suffix 'ward' means 'in the direction of'. 'Awk' is an old Norse word meaning 'turned the wrong way'.

The Spellzone interactive course is intended to be used online and may not be printed.

"Thank goodness for Spellzone during this remote learning phase. The site is easy for students to navigate independently and they're really enjoying the activities and spelling games. You get an awful lot for your money with Spellzone. Really reassuring is the very prompt response with helpdesk queries. I've very rarely needed the helpdesk, but when I have, the issue has been addressed and sorted within a very short time."
