The ea spelling pattern is a common way to represent the long /e/ sound, as found in words like meat, bean, and tea. You might see this pattern in the middle or end of words, and sometimes even at the start, like in ear or east.
But be careful! The ea spelling can also create a short /e/ sound in words like bread or bear. This list will help you identify when the ea spelling represents the long /e/ sound, with plenty of examples to explore.
