These words are examples of the doubling rule: when a word ends in a short vowel and one consonant we must double the consonant when adding a vowel suffix.

	flapping	Stop flapping that paper at me.

	spotted	We spotted a kingfisher on the river bank.

	snappy	He has a very snappy way of talking.
	setting	I took a great picture of the setting sun.
	hidden	I have hidden my sweets from my brother.
	trodden	I think you have trodden in something smelly.
	dipped	I dipped my foot in the freezing water.
	travelled	The cars travelled over the suspension bridge.
	stopped	The sailors stopped to work on the pontoon.
