Spelling list: Some practice in consonant patterns

A short vowel is usually followed by two consonants. A long vowel is usually followed by just one consonant.

fatter	The cat got fatter and fatter. *
later	I'll see you later.
better	My spelling is getting much better.
peter	Peter would like to come too.
dinner	What did you have for dinner yesterday? *
diner	Jack stopped at the diner for a meal.
rocket	The rocket went into space. *
broken	There was a broken link in the chain.
supper	I had pasta and tomato sauce for supper. *
super	He believed he had super powers.
