These 'Learning Tips' are taken from various parts of the Spellzone course - some are from the early part and some are for harder words, later in the course.

From Spellzone Unit 18, 'High Frequency' words:

Many people find it hard to remember the -ould words:
could I wish I could remember this word.
would You would remember if you worked at it.
should You should practice the words every day.
Learning tip to help your spelling 1. Make up mnemonics to help you remember the -ould letter pattern. For example:
Old umbrellas leak drops
Old uncles love doughnuts

2. Practice writing the ould letter pattern.
As you write it, say the words of your chosen mnemonic.

These words have some odd letters added in the middle. You need to think of a way to remember that letter is there.
friend - friend
Learn and remember:
I to the end
Will be your friend
build - build
Learn and remember:
U and I
Build a house
people - people How many people watched the game?
Learning tip to help your spelling As you write the word people, say it aloud - but pronounce it with the sound /o/:    
beautiful -
beautiful
That's a beautiful dress you're wearing.
Learning tip to help your spelling As you write the word beautiful, say it aloud - but pronounce it with the sound // :    
their - their Their means 'belonging to them.'
Learning tip to help your spelling Say this sentence until you know it:
The girls got dirt on their shirts and their skirts.

Write the sentence and highlight each ir pattern.


The next extract is from Unit 32, word endings -ate and -ite :

   
chocolate favourite (US: favorite)

When the sound is not clear, there is no rule to help you choose between -ate or -ite. The most common ending is -ate , but there are a few -ite words which you will need.

Learn all the -ite words in the list.
Then use -ate for any others.
To learn each -ite word:
Make a link between that word and another containing i or ite.

The next extract is from Unit 20, words with the 'Soft c' sound :

The sc words:
These words use both s and c to say /s/.
scene* The picture showed a peaceful country scene.
scent* The hounds followed the scent of the fox.
science Rocket science enabled space travel.
scimitar Arab warriors of old fought with scimitars.
scissors Good scissors need to be kept sharp.
ascend/ascent To ascend is to go up.
descend/descent To descend is to go down
crescent The moon was in the shape of a crescent.
fascinate Our baby is fascinated by that toy.
Learning tip to help your spelling Use a 'spelling language' to remember these words: as you write them pronounce the c as /k/.
