Unit 1: Guide to the Spellzone Course

A typical Spellzone unit

Many units follow this pattern:

  • a 'teaching page' where first you hear the target sound. Click on the ear for an example.
teaching point - english spelling
  • a list of the most common words with those spellings
  • a practice exercise for these words; sometimes you will be asked to choose the correct spelling from all the ways of spelling the target sound. The program will mark your work, tell you the correct answers and give you your score.

  • a list of more advanced words
  • a practice exercise for these harder words, again, marked instantly for you
homophones - English spelling online course
  • any homophones for this spelling topic e.g.

bear bare         road rode        accept / except

learning tip - English spelling online course
  • tips on how to remember any tricky words from the unit
Rule breakers - English spelling online course
  • a section on any 'odd' words and those which break the rules

Throughout each unit, you are in control - you choose which topics you need to work on.
